Christmas on Orchard Road

The other day my father-in-law asked me if Singapore loses something by not having cold weather at Christmastime. Yeah I know, California doesn’t get as cold as most of the US, but compared to Singapore, it’s freezing cold. And I do miss being able to wear winter clothes, like you know, full length pants. Maybe a hoodie. On the other hand, Singapore has fantastic decorations on Orchard Road. So this year, I made the most of Christmastime in the tropics and set out in my shorts and sandals, camera in hand, to capture some of the sights along Singapore’s famous shopping street.

Ion Orchard's tree

We started at Ion Orchard’s giant tree. Ion Orchard was also the location for the sign at the top of the post.

Ngee Ann City

Ngee Ann City was our next stop. I liked their subtle sign, but we stepped inside to see their magnificent tree.

Paragon reindeer

Paragon’s reindeer. So classy.

Seriously, what is this?

I have no idea what’s going on here.

Orchard Central fairy wishing well

No matter what holiday it is, Orchard Central never disappoints. This year they had a few stalls inside selling Christmas decorations and gifts, and they went all out with their pink fairy and unicorn wishing well theme.

Orchard Central has unicorns!

You thought I was joking about the unicorns, didn’t you? Nope. Orchard Central has pink unicorns. <3

It’s a pretty good year for decorations on Orchard Road, but we were disappointed we didn’t see Santa so we headed off to the Shoppes at Marina Bay, thinking surely we’d find something grand there for Christmas. After walking around for what seemed like a long time, we came across this crew:

Santa and friends

This was very cute, but not quite what we had in mind. We headed towards the skating rink, thinking this was our best shot of finding Santa, a tree, anything festive to celebrate the holidays.

We weren’t disappointed. We even caught a glimpse of Santa…

Santa and elves

Apparently Santa likes the local food. He and his elves were enjoying some dinner at the food court. We followed suit and like those elves, I enjoyed some Pepper Rice.

It was raining hard by the time so we didn’t stick around for the lights at Gardens by the Bay as we had planned. Hopefully, we’ll be able to catch them before they go, but Orchard Road and MBS provided a nice little boost to our holiday spirits. For me, the weather doesn’t take anything away from the holidays.
