The colorful former home of Tan Teng Niah is a popular sight in Singapore’s Little India. Many people mistake this for an Indian home due to the bright colors, but it is actually a Chinese villa that confectioner Tan Teng Niah had built for his wife in 1900. Today it is kept brightly painted by the community of Little India, and there is an Indian food court adjacent to the home. Tekka Food Centre and wet market is just behind the Tan Teng Niah house, and there are many stalls around the home, selling flower garlands and souvenirs.
